Shameful neglect of evidence

NEARLY one month has passed since Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over the skies of eastern Ukraine, taking the lives of 298 people. An international investigation is underway, led by the Netherlands, with members from Ukraine, Malaysia, the United States, Russia and others.

Though the team of investigators examining the crash site has yet to publish the findings and assign culpability to the responsible party, prominent media outlets have obediently toed the line of several western capitals with reports that all but categorically blame Russia for the aircraft’s demise.

Journalistic and analytical speculation cannot be avoided in such a tragic and geopolitically-charged situation. Media outlets have the responsibility to provide both critical commentary and impartial reporting to their readers, but in the case of MH17, the lack of balance is breathtaking.

Those parties who unreservedly point fingers at Moscow in the hours immediately following the disaster have yet to make public any forensic evidence that definitively implicates Russia in providing anti-Kiev militias with the training or hardware needed to take down a commercial airliner.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defence Ministry has made available compelling satellite images and military data that calls the Ukrainian government’s official narrative of events into question. Moscow’s findings have either been laxly underreported or dismissed as propaganda by the West.

United States officials, such as Secretary of State John Kerry, made numerous media appearances that were used to argue the Obama administration’s position on MH17, that Moscow had directly trained and equipped rebels in eastern Ukraine who carried out the attack.

To date, the White House has made available several satellite images that support their version of the story. Moscow responded by pointing out that the images released by Washington carried altered time stamps that indicate that the images were taken in the days after the disaster.

Russia’s Defence Ministry also claimed that the weather and lighting conditions in the US satellite images did not correspond to the actual climate conditions at the time they were allegedly recorded. US officials also declined to provide further evidence over concerns that doing so would compromise Washington’s intelligence-gathering capabilities.

US intelligence officials who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity in the days following the tragedy flatly stated they did not possess evidence to substantiate Russia’s involvement; they also conceded that they did not know the identities or even the nationalities of the culprits.

There is a clear contradiction between the statements offered by US intelligence officials and the narrative endorsed by the White House. Washington continues to rely heavily on unverified and poorly sourced social media content to validate its claims of Russian involvement.

Western media outlets have hardly deviated from Washington’s narrative, while their coverage has strongly assumed Russia’s culpability, despite the wholly circumstantial nature of the evidence disclosed by the West. It is farcical that the country known for overseeing the world’s most sophisticated and far-reaching surveillance capabilities has sunk to citing grainy YouTube videos to justify their policy decisions.

An investigative report recently published by Robert Parry, the former Associated Press journalist best known for his coverage of the Iran-Contra scandal, cites American intelligence analysts who suspect that Ukrainian armed forces were behind the attack.

Parry’s intelligence sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that the US intelligence community lacks any satellite imagery supporting the White House’s allegations of Russian involvement, and that the only surface-to-air missile system in that part of Ukraine appeared to be under the control of the Ukrainian military.

Neither Washington or Kiev have released images of a Buk missile system being transferred by Russia to rebel controlled areas of Ukraine, where several high-level Ukrainian officials allege it was fired from before being taken back into Russia.

The claims made by Parry’s US intelligence sources have been corroborated by military monitoring data made available by Russia’s Defence Ministry, which detected radiation from Kiev-controlled missile batteries at the time of the MH17 downing.

Moscow has made available satellite images that purport to show Ukrainian air defence units deployed in the southeastern parts of the country near rebel-held territory during the time of the crash. Kiev’s concentration of multiple missile batteries in the region is highly suspect because the rebels they are fighting do not possess aircraft.

Russia has also claimed that it tracked a Ukrainian Su-25 fighter jet flying in close proximity to the aircraft prior to it disappearing from radar. Parry’s article claims that US intelligence analysts believe that the Ukrainian military missile battery system and the government’s fighter jets may have been operated in collusion to bring down the aircraft.

The New Straits Times recently published a report citing forensic experts who believed that the blast fragmentation patterns on the aircraft’s fuselage were consistent with that of cannon rounds from an air-to-air assault.

The article included testimony from Michael Bociurkiw, a Ukrainian-Canadian monitor from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, who claimed that the fuselage had been pockmarked with machinegun fire.

Retired Lufthansa pilot Peter Haisenko was also cited in the report, remarking that a surface-fired missile alone could not have created entry points on both the port and starboard sides of the aircraft.

Olga Ivshina, a correspondent with BBC’s Russian language service, interviewed local eyewitnesses who told her that they saw military aircraft in the sky flying beneath MH17 before the incident, intensifying suspicions of Ukrainian involvement. Ivshina’s video dispatch was hastily removed from BBC’s website, which claimed that her report didn’t meet editorial standards.

The coverage presented to audiences by western media outlets has been framed in lockstep with official positions of western governments, and there is conspicuous and unmistakable effort by these media giants to keep “unwanted” facts and testimony out of the discussion.

In light of the evidence brought forward by the Russian side – as well as the questions raised by credible journalists and investigators – the Dutch-led international investigation team should request that Kiev produce raw military radar data and missile battery logs recorded at the time of the disaster.

Recordings of Ukrainian air traffic control’s correspondence with the doomed aircraft should also be made available for public scrutiny. If the international investigation is truly concerned with impartiality, it must objectively scrutinise the evidence on offer and pressure intelligence agencies and governments to substantiate their allegations and disclose the facts.

Vatic Note:  UPDATE: In the middle of writing this, I received an article on Iceland arresting 12 Rothschild bankers.... I have not confirmed this either, but I can't imagine Iceland putting out something that is misleading.  They had the most courage and have done more  than anyone so far, with, maybe, the exception of Argentina and Ireland.  We owe that Mouse that roared, Iceland, a debt of gratitude for her courage that started these purgings and arrests.  

Anyway, this maybe an indirect confirmation of Putin's arrest warrant of Rothschilds and Soros. Do  not stop whatever you were going to do or are doing due to this news.  I wish to confirm all of this before we celebrate since these khazar bankers are masters of deception and lying.  Until its confirmed, just treat this like another piece of info to be considered, but not celebrated yet.  

Original Vatic Note before update:  I have not confirmed this yet from a second source, so keep that in mind.  We know how they work, with respect to "controlling" the opposition, so this could be just another attempt to back us off since the rage factor is dramatically increasing internationally.   What better way to control, then by pretending someone is actually doing something about it.  When these bankers all get arrested since they are not in hiding, then I will take this seriously.

The first thing I would want to see is a valid certified copy of the warrant or whatever Russia used to issue such an arrest call.  Then I would want to wait and see if any of these very top level bankers, including Rothschilds, get  arrested, and if not then its simply controlling our actions.  AFter all, there are billions of us and only a few thousand of them.

This does resemble a Soros ploy as he did with the Occupy Wall STreet Scam,   however if this is legit, then you should know about it in advance, as it can act as cover for a citizens arrest on any of these bankers listed in the international warrant.

Putin has also recently confronted Federal Reserve Chairman Bernard Bernanke and told him that the Russian Federation will no longer tolerate the use of individuals like George Soros and Marc Rich in massive foreign currency derivative fraud that is destabilizing the world economy.

In other words, folks, there will be NO backdoor QE3 using derivatives tied to George Soros and Marc Rich.

P.S. We can also divulge that the government of Greece has joined John Hancock insurance company in a class action lawsuit against the criminal U.S. banking giants Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan.

The class action lawsuit accuses both Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan of fraudulent sales practices in the marketing of bogus mortgage-backed securities from the year 2003 to 2007.
 

Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan sold these bogus financial instruments to the government of Greece while at the same time they were actually shorting these financial instruments in offshore hedge funds on the Isle of Man and the Cayman Islands.
 

P.P.S. At this hour the government of Greece is ready to leave the European Union and try to save their nation similar to that which took place in Iceland.

The Game Changed in Venezuela Last Night – and the International Media Is Asleep At the Switch

My note: The same situation is going on in Bangkok, Thailand, and Kiev, Ukraine  where civilians are protesting by the thousands. The MSM don't want the western civilians to get any ideas so they don't show it at all. There are two sides to this.

1. The protest are fired up by security forces, spies and such in a game of devide and conquer.

Listen and understand. The game changed in Venezuela last night.What had been a slow-motion unravelling that had stretched out over many years went kinetic all of a sudden.

What we have this morning is no longer the Venezuela story you thought you understood.

Throughout last night, panicked people told their stories of state-sponsored paramilitaries onmotorcycles roaming middle class neighborhoods, shooting at people and  storming into apartment buildings, shooting at anyone who seemed like he might be protesting.

People continue to be arrested merely for protesting, and a long established local Human Rights NGO makes an urgent plea for an investigation into widespread reports of torture of detainees. There are now dozens of serious human right abuses: National Guardsmenshooting tear gas canisters directly into residential buildings. We have videos of soldiers shooting civilians on the street.

And that’s just what came out in real time, over Twitter and YouTube, before any real investigation is carried out. Online media is next, a city of 645,000 inhabitants has been taken off the internet amid mounting repression, and this blog itself has been the object of a Facebook “block” campaign.

What we saw were not “street clashes”, what we saw is a state-hatched offensive to suppress and terrorize its opponents.

Here at Caracas Chronicles we’re doing what it can to document the crisis, but there’s only so much one tiny, zero-budget blog can do.

After the major crackdown on the streets of large (and small) Venezuelan cities last night, I expected some kind of response in the major international news outlets this morning. I understand that with an even bigger and more photogenic freakout ongoing in an even more strategically important country, we weren’t going to be front-page-above-the-fold, but I’m staggered this morning to wake up, scan the press and find…

Nothing.

As of 11 a.m. this morning, the New York Times World Section has…nothing.

The level of disengagement on display is deeply shocking.

Venezuela’s domestic media blackout is joined by a parallel international blackout, one born not of censorship but of disinterest and inertia. It’s hard to express the sense of helplessness you get looking through these pages and finding nothing. Venezuela burns; nobody cares.

Let me put this clearly. Y’all need to step it up. The time to discard what you thought you knew about the way things work in Venezuela is now.
