Kummakivi is the Finnish word for “strange rock,” and the geological formation that is found at Valtola in Southern Savonia, Finland is quite a wonder to behold. Surrounded by the local forest, the immense monolith balances precariously upon another rock, the latter being a smooth, curved surface. The area and the lower stone are neatly kept from encroaching moss and undergrowth, but the larger rock on top is weathered from age. Small cracks and fissions extend their tendrils across the surface of Kummakivi, perhaps, making the balancing act appear ever more dangerous, more mystical, and more breathtaking.

This huge Rock is located in Finland, at 61.5 degrees N. The Canary Islands, off shore NW Africa, are located at the complementary latitude of 90-61.5= 28.5 degrees N. In antiquity the use of complementary latitudes was very common. These were the first islands discovered in the North Atlantic Ocean, c.5700 BC (+/-100 years). For thousands of years people tried to cross the Atlantic, but in vain. In c.3200 BC people finally reached the West Coast of Greenland at this very latitude of 61.5 degrees N, but they gave up crossing Davis Strait to the west ! Finally America was discovered via the Bering Sea in the Fourth Dynasty ! It was called Fourth Dynasty Land, and finally the size of the North Atlantic Ocean was known: the Fourth Dynasty Ocean. - - - This huge Rock consists of four big layers, and on the front side down below is a large V-shaped carving, which resembles the coast of South Greenland. I wonder whether these features of the Stone relate to this ancient Story ...? - - - In the next, Fifth Dynasty the Northern Crossing to America was discovered by the 3rd king Neferirkare (c.2498-2478 BC). The area of Karelia, due east of this Stone in NW Russia, is named after ths King.
