“There is A Serious Possibility We Have Been Visited By Other Civilizations” – X United Kingdom Defence Minister

As I mentioned in a previous article, I am well aware that just because somebody, no matter what their ‘position’ says something to be true, does not necessarily mean it’s true. That doesn’t  mean we dismiss it,  if there is evidence (footage and documentation) that goes beyond their testimony it is worth hearing what they have to say, especially if they have held high level positions within the departments that deal with this matter. That is precisely why I think it’s important to hear these testimonies.

Lord Admiral Hill-Norton was the former chief of defence staff, and 5 star Admiral of the Royal Navy. That’s the highest possible rank of the British Royal Navy, similar to General Dwight Eisenhower’s 5 star rank in the United States. He was also Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. These are definitely positions to be somewhat in the “know” of what is going on, to some extent.

I am not surprised many of these people wait until old age to share their thoughts.

His statements echo the words of  X Canadian Defence Minister Paul Heyller, who said that at least 4 known alien specieshave been visiting Earth for thousands of years.

The debate whether UFOs exist or not has long disappeared. UFOs have been officially verified, the question now seems to be, who is operating them? Sure, some might be classified military aircraft, but it seems that some could very well be extraterrestrial in origin. I believe, just like the world has become aware of UFOs, they will become aware of the ones operating some of them.

Many governments have done the same, admitting to using resources and having departments that study the UFO phenomenon in depth. Files have also been released via the Freedom of Information Act to UFO researchers who are interested. Here is a brief video for those of you new to the fact that this is a well documented phenomenon. Here is an example of a file released from the NSA, confirming stories of military personnel who have had ground and air radar confirmation, as well as visual confirmation.

The fact that the highest ranking people within the British Ministry of Defense has (somewhat) been kept in the dark about UFOs is mind boggling. In 2008, Paul Hellyer (X Canadian Defense Minister) expressed his frustration at the fact that trillions of dollars are going into projects that the highest ranking personnel in the military, as well as the President, know nothing about. (source)

His statements were given more validity this year, when Edward Snowden leaked the very first public disclosure of the black budget. The black budget is directly related to the UFO phenomenon, and you can read more about it here.

I’d also like to address rumors of false information coming into the public domain. That all of this UFO disclosure is a tool used by the elite in order to plan a false flag alien invasion. Just like anything else, the manipulation and ‘perception twisting,’ of real phenomenon has always occurred within corporate media. Using the extraterrestrial phenomenon to scare the human population is a strong possibility, just like terrorism is used to scare the public. At the same time, the truth is still there, whatever it may be, and it’s up to us to find it out for ourselves. Use your heart, listen to yourself, go through the confusion rather than blindly believing what you are told on television. I personally believe that the elite (if they are planning such a thing) would not, and could not be successful.

It’s up to us where we want to take the realization that we are not alone. Personally, I think it’s a big deal. What is more of a big deal is the fact that now more than ever we need to address the dire environmental situation of our planet and take care of it. Perhaps that realization is tied to the extraterrestrial phenomenon in some way?

Perhaps we are more powerful than we believe,  if guided by light from a place of peace and cooperation just imagine what we could create. I believe we can heal this planet and unlock our infinite unlimited potential to create, explore and discover.

Snowden: NSA wil dat Nederland spionagewet invoert

De NSA heeft een lobby gevoerd om in Nederland wetgeving in te voeren die het mogelijk maakt om ongericht af te te tappen. Dat beweert NSA-klokkenluider Edward Snowden. In Nederland wordt nu gewerkt aan dergelijke wetgeving.

"Deze landen hebben instructies gehad van de NSA", stelt Snowden, "over hoe ze de juridische bescherming van de communicatie van hun inwoners kunnen inperken." Daarbij gaat het onder meer om Nederland, maar ook om Zweden, Duitsland en Nieuw-Zeeland, schrijft Snowden in antwoord op vragen van Europarlementariërs die door D66 zijn gepubliceerd.

Duitsland zou daarbij onder druk zijn gezet; het is niet duidelijk of dat in Nederland ook zo was. De onthulling komt precies op het moment dat Nederland overweegt om wetgeving in te voeren die het mogelijk maakt om internetkabels ongericht te tappen. Een commissie die door het kabinet is ingesteld, heeft dat aanbevolen. Het is nog niet duidelijk of de wetgeving er daadwerkelijk komt.

Nadat landen wetgeving invoeren, wordt de inhoud van de taps gedeeld met de Amerikanen, stelt Snowden. "Daarbij geeft een land als Denemarken de NSA toegang tot een aftappunt, onder de voorwaarde dat de NSA die niet gebruikt om Denen af te tappen. Duitsland doet hetzelfde, maar dan met de voorwaarde dat Duitsers niet worden afgetapt."In de praktijk wordt dezelfde verbinding dan op twee punten afgetapt. "En dan vangt de NSA de communicatie van Duitsers op zodra die langs Denemarken gaat, en de communicatie van Denen als die door Duitsland reist."

Eerder meldde de Britse krant The Guardian al dat de Britse geheime dienst GCHQ de Nederlandse geheime diensten zou hebben bijgestaan. "De Nederlanders hebben een aantal juridische problemen die ze moeten oplossen voordat hun wetgeving het toestaat om te opereren op dezelfde manier als GCHQ", zou een intern document luiden.

"Ik geloof niet alleen dat surveillance zonder verdenking er niet in slaagt om ons veiliger te maken, maar ons in feite zelfs onveiliger maakt", schrijft Snowden. De klokkenluider noemt daarbij de aanslagen tijdens de marathon van Boston vorig jaar als voorbeeld. "De Russen waarschuwden ons voor Tamerlan Tsarnaev", schrijft de klokkenluider, verwijzend naar een van de aanslagplegers. "De FBI deed niet meer dan een vluchtig onderzoek en kon het complot niet ontdekken."

Bij de aanslag kwamen drie mensen om en vielen honderden gewonden. "Het geld dat had kunnen worden gebruikt voor een echt onderzoek, werd uitgegeven aan het monitoren van de telefoongesprekken van alle Amerikanen", stelt Snowden. "Dit had niet mogen gebeuren. Ik hou van mijn land, en ik geloof dat spionage een doel heeft en door moet gaan. Ik heb mijn leven geriskeerd, evenals mijn familie en mijn vrijheid, om jullie de waarheid te vertellen."

Een ander voorbeeld is volgens de klokkenluider de underwear bomber die in 2009 van Amsterdam naar Detroit reisde met een bom in zijn onderbroek. "De 290 mensen aan boord van zijn vlucht werden niet gered door massale surveillance, maar door zijn eigen incompetentie: hij faalde er in om zijn bom te laten ontploffen", tekent Snowden aan. Dat terwijl de vader van de aanslagpleger de Amerikaanse overheid nog expliciet waarschuwde. "Maar wij waren te druk met het monitoren van online-games en het aftappen van Duitse ministers", sneert de klokkenluider.

Snowden schrijft verder dat de Russische geheime dienst hem heeft benaderd. "Zelfs de geheime dienst van Andorra zou me benaderen als zij de kans had. Dat is hun werk.", schrijft Snowden. "Maar ik heb geen documenten meegenomen vanuit Hong Kong en hoewel ik zeker weet dat ze teleurgesteld waren, duurde het niet lang voor een inlichtingendienst om te te beseffen wanneer ze pech hebben."

De klokkenluider claimt nog veel meer documenten te hebben waaruit blijkt dat de rechten van EU-burgers geschonden zijn. "Maar ik laat de afweging of het in het publieke belang is om iets te publiceren over aan verantwoordelijke journalisten in samenwerking met belangrijke personen van overheden", schrijft Snowden, die benadrukt dat hij enkel journalisten informatie heeft overhandigd.

Snowden besloot naar eigen zeggen pas naar journalisten te stappen toen hij misstanden intern had aangekaart. "Ik heb het gerapporteerd aan meer dan tien verschillende functionarissen, maar geen van hen ondernam actie. Als werknemer van een privaat bedrijf in plaats van een overheidsinstantie zou ik niet beschermd zijn door de Amerikaanse klokkenluiderswet." Snowden zegt dat als de EU hem wil helpen, het parlement moet volhouden dat massaspionage moet stoppen. "Wat met mij als persoon gebeurt is minder belangrijk dan wat er gebeurt met onze gezamenlijke rechten."

Snowden: ‘Training Guide’ for GCHQ, NSA Agents Infiltrating and Disrupting Alternative Media Online

Ed Snowden’s latest leaked documents open the lid on what is perhaps the most vindictive and disgusting aspect of the government-corporate joint surveillance state seen yet…

This is Britain’s  GCHQ how-to guide for Online Covert Action which, according to Glenn Greenwald (see links below) has been shared with US agencies like the NSA. Upon review, it can only be described as government-sponsored subterfuge of domestic society.

According to these latest documents, there are paid government agent/contractor persons on social media posing as someone they are not, whilst on the payroll of the government. Their job is to befriend members of the alternative media, embed themselves in the ebb and flow of day-to-day communications, and then to engage in elaborate subterfuge – by any means necessary. The training exercise below uses terms like “befriend”, “infiltrate”, “mask/mimic”, “ruse”, “set-up”, “disrupt”, “create cognitive stress”, “use deception”, “ruin business relationships”, and “post negative information on appropriate forums” – all of which is not only illegal and morally bankrupt, but also runs completely contrary to the very fundamental ‘values’ and indeed founding principles, of a modern free democratic society or constitutional republic.

Government targets in this malicious operation appear to be bloggers, activists, journalists, social event organisers and anyone else deemed to be a ‘emerging leader’ or voice in the public sphere, or alternative media online.

This obviously extends way beyond the practice of employing paid ‘trolls’ to pollute comment sections and redirect forum threads – which still exists under both government and corporate umbrellas.

Thanks to Ed Snowden (photo, left), the public – as well as moral individuals within government and the judiciary, might fully realise just how these sort of underhanded, and unlawful operations have sunk to the lowest possible levels.

It’s not enough that the governments of both the UK and US are blanket spying on each other’s populations and then swapping data, but now we see how they are aggressively targeting individuals in secret, undermining them and eventually setting out to destroy them – and all the while employing organised deception (with the full backing of the state security apparatus) to achieve a series of  said ‘outcomes’.

That’s conspiracy to defraud, and it’s against the law in any modern civilised society.

One has to pose the question: is this type of government sanctioned gang-stalking and conspiracy to defraud civilised? Most people would answer ‘no’ of course, but unfortunately most people are not making the decisions regarding these new malicious soviet-style programs in Britain and the US.

It’s so comforting to know that the governments of Great Britain and the United States have allocated public money not only to spy on their own innocent citizens, but also that ample public money is also being spent to actively undermine free speech, derail small businesses, to entrap and intentionally defraud and defame unsuspecting citizens that are deemed targets by some secret committee – all carried out in an extrajudicial (outside of the law) way.

Sounds very much like those horrific East German Stasi tales we all point to as history’s archetypal low-point of modern society.

Those who know their history, know that this type of aggressive state attack against its own citizens has nothing to do with ‘national security’ or ‘terrorism’, but is merely a case of the state using its muscle against those who are shining a spotlight on its shortcoming and internal government corruption and criminal behaviour.

By (almost) anyone’s metric, it’s a shameful chapter in history.

New Snowden Leak: Documents Expose Government False Flag Internet Strategy

New Edward Snowden leaks have surfaced showing us how American intelligence agencies are attempting to manipulate and control online behavior even going to the extremes of setting people up using what the  GCHQ calls ”Honey Traps“. They then go on to force you into behavior you may not otherwise of been in and use the information to discredit American patriots who oppose the current establishment.

Glenn Greenwald who leaked the information has stated:

“Over the last several weeks, I worked with NBC News to publish a series of articles about “dirty trick” tactics used by GCHQ’s previously secret unit, JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group). 

These were based on four classified GCHQ documents presented to the NSA and the other three partners in the English-speaking “Five Eyes” alliance. Today, we at the Intercept are publishing another new JTRIG document, in full, entitled “The Art of Deception: Training for Online Covert Operations”.

The files (below) show how shill agents infiltrate the internet to manipulate, stage and attempt to corrupt reputations. Is it OK for the NSA (or GCHQ) to use tax payer dollars and technology that was intended to prevent foreign attacks to discredit American citizens?  Are these extreme tactics of deception by our government honorable?

Snowden bang voor aanslag VS op zijn leven

De voortvluchtige Amerikaanse klokkenluider Edward Snowden (30) is bang dat er een aanslag op zijn leven wordt gepleegd door de Amerikaanse autoriteiten. Dat heeft hij zondag tijdens een tv-interview met de Duitse publieke omroep ARD gezegd.
"De vertegenwoordigers van de regering willen me dood hebben", meent Snowden. Als bewijs voor zijn uitlatingen wees hij op een artikel op de webiste BuzzFeed. "Leden van het Pentagon hebben gezegd dat ze me een kogel door het hoofd willen jagen of me willen vergiftigen."
Snowden wordt gezocht door de VS omdat hij informatie heeft gelekt waaruit bleek dat de Amerikaanse inlichtingendienst NSA op grote schaal afluistert. Hij vluchtte na zijn onthullingen vorig jaar naar Hongkong en later naar Rusland, dat hem tijdelijk asiel verleent.

FAR News - Snowden docs prove aliens 'The Tall Whites' currently control U.S. Government

An Iranian news agency alleges that documents provided by former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden prove that “an alien/extraterrestrial intelligence agenda is driving US domestic and international policy, and has been doing so since at least 1945.”

The Fars News Agency asserts that the shadow alien government running the United States is based in Nevada.  According to Fars News, Russian authorities are most concerned about the “confirmation” that extraterrestrials controlling the U.S., known as the “Tall Whites.

Far News got their article from the conspiracy site whatdoesitmeans, known for their sensational articles.

After the story was published by FAR, the western mainstream media directly jumped on the wagon and stated: "The article is not supported by facts, it's just a rumor and thus, complete nonsense".

Snowden Documents proving 'US-Alien-Hitler' link stun Russia

A stunning Federal Security Services (FSB) report on the nearly two million highly classified top-secret documents obtained from the United States Department of Defense (DOD) run National Security Agency-Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) by the American ex-patriot Edward Snowden states that this information is providing “incontrovertible proof” that an “alien/extraterrestrial intelligence agenda” is driving US domestic and international policy, and has been doing so since at least 1945.

Edward Snowden is a computer specialist, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee, and former NSA/CSS contractor who disclosed these classified documents to several media outlets in late 2012 and was granted temporary asylum in Russia in 2013 after his designation by the Obama regime as the “most wanted man on earth.”

This FSB report further states that Snowden, in December, 2012, contacted the highly respected American columnist, blogger, and author Glenn Greenwald by an email headed with the subject line stating, “I and others have things you would be interested in.?

In Snowden’s own words, this report continues, he outlined to Greenwald the reason for his highly secretive group obtaining and releasing these documents by warning that that there “were actually two governments in the US, the one that was elected, and the other, secret regime, governing in the dark.”

As to who is running this “secret regime” Snowden and his cohorts were warning about, FSB experts in this report say, was confirmed this past weekend by former Canadian defense minister Paul Hellyer who was given access to all of Snowden’s documents by Russian intelligence services and stated they were, indeed, “accurate.”

Even though Defense Minister Hellyer’s exact statements to the FSB in regards to Snowden’s documents remain classified, shortly after his “extensive electronic interview” by the FSB he was allowed to appear on Russia Today’s program SophieCo this past fortnight where he shockingly admitted that aliens have “been visiting our planet for thousands of years” and described several types of these extraterrestrials, including “Tall Whites” who are working with the US Air Force in Nevada.

Whether its true or not, Paul Heller was given access to the Snowden's documents, his interview on Russia's Today program is remarkable. But not only Heller was allowed to appear on the program, last week, also Dr. Steven Greer was allowed to appear on Russia Today. Coincidence?

Brazilië schrijft geschiedenis op Algemene Vergadering VN

Er was nauwelijks aandacht voor de Algemene Vergadering van de VN. Toch werd daar een en ander gezegd dat verdient nader bekeken te worden. Onder anderen de Braziliaanse en de Amerikaanse presidenten zeiden er enkele zeer merkwaardige dingen.

De Braziliaanse president Dilma Rousseff had in de weken voor de Algemene Vergadering van de VN duidelijk gemaakt dat er een aantal dingen waren gebeurd die zij ten strengste veroordeelde. Zo bleek uit de onthullingen van Edward Snowden dat de NSA zowat alle communicatie van het Braziliaanse petroleumbedrijf Petrobras bespioneerde, enkele dagen later bleek de Britse inlichtingendienst GCHQ hetzelfde te hebben gedaan.

Petrobras is niet bepaald een terroristische organisatie. Het is echter wel een geduchte concurrent van Amerikaanse en Britse petroleumbedrijven. Met andere woorden, de NSA deed hier aan economische spionage. Alsof dat nog niet erg genoeg was, bleek dat de NSA ook alle interne e-mails van de Braziliaanse president met haar staf al jarenlang afluisterde.
Rousseff zegde een gepland staatsbezoek aan de VS af. Een aantal grote handelsovereenkomsten, waaronder de aankoop van militair materiaal, die tijdens dat bezoek plechtig zouden worden ondertekend, werden uitgesteld. Zelfs na een persoonlijk gesprek van 20 minuten met president Obama kwam Rousseff niet op haar beslissing terug.

Wie dacht dat zij op de Algemene Vergadering een en ander met omfloerste bewoordingen zou omschrijven, vergiste zich. In haar toespraak nam de president geen blad voor de mond. De volledige toespraak vind je in de YouTube-link hieronder. Een uittreksel:

"Wat we hier voor ons hebben is een ernstig geval van schending van de mensenrechten en burgerrechten, een geval van een invasie en beroving van vertrouwelijke geheime informatie, die commerciële activiteiten betreft. Bovenal is dit een geval van minachting voor de nationale soevereiniteit van mijn land. Wij hebben de Amerikaanse regering ons protest laten weten en eisen verklaringen, excuses en garanties dat dergelijke daden of procedures niet meer zullen voorkomen. Vriendschappelijke regeringen en maatschappijen die oprechte strategische partnerschappen willen opbouwen, zoals in ons geval, kunnen onmogelijk toelaten dat aan de gang zijnde illegale acties doorgaan alsof dat de gewone gang van zaken is. Deze acties zijn totaal onaanvaardbaar."

Even later kwam ze in haar toespraak met een voorstel om het internet op internationaal niveau te reguleren op basis van vijf principes:

"Brazilië zal een aantal voorstellen op tafel leggen om een multilateraal civiel kader te creëren voor internetbestuur en –gebruik, evenals beheersstructuren die effectieve bescherming van data en informatie garanderen, die over het internet circuleren. We moeten een aantal multilaterale mechanismes opstellen voor het World Wide Web, mechanismen die in staat zijn een aantal principes concreet te realizeren."

1. Het eerste principe is dat van vrijheid van meningsuiting, de privacy van personen en het respect voor de mensenrechten.
2. Principe twee is democratisch bestuur, multilateraal en transparant, uitgeoefend met een gevoel voor openheid, dat tevens collectieve creativiteit stimuleert en participatie van de maatschappij, de overheid en de privésector.
3. Ten derde geldt het principe van universaliteit dat zowel sociale als menselijke ontwikkeling verzekert, evenals de totstandkoming van inclusieve, niet discriminerende maatschappijen.
4. Het vierde principe is dat van culturele verscheidenheid, zonder enige dwangmatige oplegging van geloof, gewoontes of waarden.
5. Principe nummer vijf is dat van de neutraliteit van het internet door middel van het afspreken van technische en ethische criteria, die het onaanvaardbaar maken dat politieke, commerciële of religieuze argumenten, voor welke reden dan ook, daar een beperking op leggen.

Historisch precedent

De president van één van de grootste nieuwe economieën ter wereld zegt openlijk in de Algemene Vergadering van de VN dat de VS de soevereiniteit van andere landen schendt – de staatssoevereinitieit is één van de basisprincipes van het VN-Handvest. Bovendien is zij de president van het machtigste land van Latijns-Amerika, de traditionele achtertuin van de VS. Dit is met andere woorden ongezien in de geschiedenis van de VN.

Toevallig of niet, na haar toespraak volgde die van president Obama. Die wijdde geen woord aan de beschuldigingen van zijn Braziliaanse collega. Wat hij wel zei was daarom niet minder verbijsterend. Een uittreksel:

"De Verenigde Staten van Amerika staan klaar om alle bestanddelen van hun macht in te zetten, waaronder militaire kracht, om onze kernbelangen in de regio veilig te stellen. We zullen externe agressie tegen onze bondgenoten en partners beantwoorden, zoals we dat in de Golfoorlog deden. Wij zullen de vrije toegankelijkheid voor de wereld van energie uit de regio verzekeren."

Kort samengevat komt dit er op neer dat hij verklaart dat de VS eender wat zal doen om de natuurlijke hulpbronnen waar ook ter wereld als zijn eigendom te beschouwen. Dat de VS militair zijn wil zal blijven opleggen wordt bevestgd door de laatste drone-aanvallen in Jemen en Pakistan, die onverminderd doorgaan.

Hij bevestigt bovendien wat toentertijd door zowat alle tegenstanders werd gezegd maar door de VS werd ontkend, namelijk dat de Golfoorlog wel degelijk om olie ging. Over het grootste spionageschandaal van de laatste vijftig jaar zegt hij verder bijna niets. Hij weerlegt niet eens de beschuldigingen van de Braziliaanse president.

Dreigen met geweld als enige optie

Het concrete buitenlandse beleid van zijn voorgangers verschilt amper van het zijne, maar geen van hen heeft ooit zo openlijk geformuleerd als deze Amerikaans president dat de VS zich het recht toeëigent om unilateraal waar ook ter wereld zijn wil hardhandig op te leggen.
Dat is enerzijds zeer verontrustend, anderzijds betekent dit dat de VS er niet meer in slaagt de wereld zijn wil op te leggen op een manier die toespraken als die van Brazilië voorkomt. De tijd dat de VS met geld, chantage of militaire bedreiging landen in het rijtje kon houden is voorbij.

De toespraak van de Braziliaanse president wordt in de westerse massamedia nauwelijks besproken. In de rest van de wereld weet men ondertussen beter. Dit voorbeeld zal navolging krijgen.

Greenwald on Snowden Leaks: The Worst Is Yet to Come

Revealing details have not yet been published, and could be rolled out in the international media over the coming weeks and months, beginning with U.S. spying activities involving Spain and France. That’s according to Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist who broke the Snowden story last June, and whose life has been drastically upturned since. “There are a lot more stories,” he said on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, where he lives. “The archives are so complex and so deep and so shocking, that I think the most shocking and significant stories are the ones we are still working on, and have yet to publish.”

Greenwald was speaking in a packed university gymnasium to hundreds of journalists, who are gathered here this week for the Global Investigative Journalism Conference, a two-yearly event that rotates around the world, bringing together writers, television producers and editors to share information and collaborate on work. Here, Greenwald was something of a hero — the entire thrust of the conference centers on ferreting out secrets and wrongdoing—and the journalist received a rock-star welcome. And while Rio was chosen as the location for the conference years ago, it proved a fortuitous spot. Greenwald recently revealed on Brazil´s hugely popular Globo TV that the NSA had spied on President Dilma Rousseff, as well as the government oil company Petrobras. The news caused a furor in Brazil, not least from Rousseff herself, and she canceled a White House visit, originally scheduled for next week.

But in an hour-long discussion on stage with a Dutch journalist, Greenwald suggested that his life was now immensely complicated. A New York lawyer before turning into a high-profile blogger in 2005, he revealed that he was in daily contact with Snowden—a fact that came as a surprise to most in the audience—in what is an active collaboration to sift through the mountain of documents Snowden carried out of the U.S. Snowden contacted Greenwald and U.S. filmmaker Laura Poitras after taking the information to Hong Kong.

Snowden, who had top-level U.S. security clearance, spent a month in Moscow Airport’s transit area until Russia granted him asylum; the U.S. has indicted him for stealing state secrets and exposing them, charges which would likely land him in jail for the rest of his life.

In addition to his contact with Snowden, Greenwald said he was in daily communication too with Poitras, who is based in Berlin, continuing to dig into what Greenwald says is “thousands and thousands of documents.” The challenge of sifting through the information is now itself a risky endeavor. “We go to extreme lengths to make sure our communication is protected,” he said.

The work has made Greenwald himself a possible target of investigation, and he intimated that returning home to the U.S. would not be simple. British police detained his partner David Miranda at Heathrow airport in August, seizing computer hard drives, as Miranda was switching planes from Berlin, where he’d met Poitras. “We spent yesterday cloistered with British lawyers in a conference room, for the lawsuit against British authorities for detaining him for what amounted to 11 hours,” Greenwald said.

But the truly drastic impact has been on Snowden’s life, of course. And in a long discussion, Greenwald outlined how Snowden’s options for asylum had quickly shrunk after he left Hawaii in early June. Snowden flew initially to Hong Kong, where he made contact with Poitras and Greenwald. The two flew to that city, a Chinese special administrative region governed mostly by its own laws, to meet him.

Greenwald said he and Poitras locked Snowden in a room in Hong Kong for six hours after they arrived to meet him in order to “relentlessly interrogate him,” and to make sure that they were not being set up, or that the documents were not fake. Greenwald said the two were also anxious to ensure that Snowden, just 29 at the time, grasped the permanent impact on his future of exposing state secrets—and of insisting to the journalists that they publish his name. “We spent the bulk of that first week making sure he really understood what the implications were of revealing himself,” Greenwald said.

When it become clear that Hong Kong would not grant Snowden protection from U.S. authorities, he tried to reach Ecuador through Moscow and Cuba, but was stuck after the U.S. canceled his passport. Still, Greenwald said governments who had considered taking in Snowden had made no real effort to do so. “Venezuela could send a jet to Moscow any time to pick him up, but never did. Ecuador the same way,” he said.

So, is Snowden happy in exile in Russia, whose government has itself conducted widespread surveillance programs and routinely cracks down on subversive journalists? Greenwald replied: “Happy, in the sense that if the alternative is a cage in the U.S. for the rest of your life, then Russia looks a lot better.”

Glenn Greenwald (46) zit in de bar van het Royal Tulip hotel in Rio de Janeiro en eet met smaak een bakje pinda's leeg. Hij oogt ontspannen en toont zich vastberaden door te gaan met het publiceren van Amerikaanse staatsgeheimen. 'De onthullingen over Nederland komen binnenkort', aldus de Amerikaanse journalist. 'Jullie hebben nog geen idee van de omvang van de Amerikaanse spionage in Nederland.'

Greenwald publiceert sinds begin juni aan de lopende band geheime informatie over de spionageactiviteiten van Amerikaanse veiligheidsdiensten. Hij doet dat samen met de in Duitsland gevestigde Amerikaanse filmmaakster Laura Poitras. Druppelsgewijs onthullen ze het materiaal dat ze kregen van klokkenluider Edward Snowden, die tienduizenden geheime documenten stal van de Amerikaanse veiligheidsdienst NSA (National Security Agency).

Uit die documenten blijkt dat de VS over de hele wereld burgers, politici, ambassades en bedrijven bespioneren door hun internet en telefoonverkeer af te tappen en op te slaan. Ook de Britten en de Canadezen spioneren in bevriende landen. Burgers kwamen erachter dat de buitenlandse inlichtingendiensten hun Facebook, Skype en Google accounts bespieden, maar ook de diplomatieke vertegenwoordigingen in de VS blijken intensief te zijn gemonitord, tegen alle internationale afspraken in.

Poging de ophef te sussen
President Barack Obama en zijn minister van Buitenlandse Zaken John Kerry probeerden de ophef te sussen door te verzekeren dat de spionage alleen is bedoeld om terrorisme te bestrijden. Prompt kwam Greenwald met publicaties over de manier waarop de Amerikanen het Braziliaanse staatsoliebedrijf Petrobras bespioneren. 'Er is geen twijfel over mogelijk dat er economische belangen mee gemoeid zijn.'

De Braziliaanse president Dilma Rousseff was woedend. Niet alleen Petrobras, ook haar persoonlijke telefoon en internetverkeer waren afgetapt. Ze stelde een staatsbanket in het Witte Huis tot nader order uit. 'Dat is ongekend', zegt Greenwald gniffelend.

In Nederland lijkt van grote verontwaardiging geen sprake. Half september kwam de regering met een officiële reactie op de onthullingen en benadrukte de positieve kant: de VS hebben beloofd de EU nader te zullen informeren over de spionageprogramma's. Het kabinet vindt de huidige discussies in het Amerikaanse Congres over transparantie 'bemoedigend' en de aangekondigde verbeteringen 'verheugend'.

Opmerkelijk, want in een rapport over cybersecurity van het ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid wordt digitale spionage door andere staten als 'hoge dreiging' gedefinieerd. 'Dreigers spioneren met de intentie hun geopolitieke of economische positie te verbeteren.'

En dat is volgens Greenwald exact het doel dat ook de VS hebben met hun spionagepraktijken. 'Het gaat om macht, zowel economisch en politiek. Het doel is een einde te maken aan internetvrijheid. Want hoe meer de VS weten over anderen, hoe meer macht ze over hen kunnen hebben.'

Hoe verklaart u de terughoudende reactie van de Nederlandse regering op uw onthullingen?
'De reactie van regeringsleiders op de onthullingen hangt deels af van het niveau van samenwerking met de VS. Er zijn vijf landen die nauw samenwerken en elkaars burgers niet bespioneren. Dat zijn de VS, Groot-Brittannië, Australië, Nieuw-Zeeland en Canada. Dan zijn er de landen waarmee de VS niet samenwerken, maar die ze wel bespioneren. Denk aan landen als Iran, Noord-Korea, Rusland, China en Venezuela.

'Veruit de meeste landen vallen in een derde categorie. De VS bespioneren deze landen en hun bevolking, maar werken ook met hen samen. De regering van zo'n land heeft bijvoorbeeld interesse in een bepaalde bevolkingsgroep en krijgt die informatie van de Amerikaanse veiligheidsdiensten. In ruil daarvoor mogen de Amerikanen de rest van het systeem bespioneren.'

• 'Bedrijfsleven en overheid in gevaar'
  
  Digitale spionage en cybercriminaliteit vormen een gevaar voor overheid en bedrijfsleven in Nederland. Zo blijkt uit het laatste rapport van het Nationaal Cyber Security Centrum (NCSC). Volgens Dick Schoof, Nationaal Coördinator Terrorismebestrijding en Veiligheid, is het zelfs de grootste bedreiging van dit moment. Het gaat de spionnen vooral om economische informatie.
  
  Om hier beter op in te spelen, wordt begin 2014 de Joint Sigint Cyber Unit (JSCU) actief. In deze organisatie bundelen de geheime diensten AIVD en MIVD hun krachten bij het vergaren van inlichtingen via computernetwerken. Ook gaan ze onderzoeken hoe ze cyberdreigingen, cyberaanvallen en digitale spionage kunnen voorkomen.
  
  Tot voor kort werd bij digitale spionage vooral gedacht aan landen als Iran, Rusland en China. Sinds de onthullingen van Edward Snowden is duidelijk dat ook de VS en Groot-Brittannië op grote schaal spioneren. Via het computerprogramma Prism en met behulp F acebook, Skype en Google vergaren ze gegevens van burgers, politici en bedrijven.
  
  Nederland maakt geen gebruik van het Prism-programma, aldus minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Ronald Plasterk in juni.
  
  Nadat bleek dat het Belgische telecombedrijf Belgacom doelwit was van de Britse veiligheidsdienst GCHQ, lieten Nederlandse telecomaanbieders weten dat er geen aanleiding is te denken dat ook zij worden bespioneerd. KPN doet wel een 'extra check'.

Is dat laatste het geval in Nederland?
'Nederland is een agressieve bondgenoot van de Verenigde Staten. Ik heb veel materiaal over Nederland maar kan daar inhoudelijk nog niet op ingaan. Dat kan pas als ik door het hele journalistieke proces ben gegaan. De toon van het debat zal waarschijnlijk wel veranderen zodra de onthullingen er zijn.'

Sinds 2004 woont Greenwald in Rio de Janeiro met zijn Braziliaanse echtgenoot David Miranda, tien honden en een kat. Gekleed in korte broek, T-shirt en teenslippers past de Amerikaan uitstekend in het straatbeeld van het tropische Rio. Om veiligheidsredenen ontvangt Greenwald geen journalisten meer bij hem thuis maar in het Royal Tulip hotel, pal aan het strand.

Tussen zijn voeten staat een donkerblauwe rugzak met daarin de geheime documenten die hij van Snowden kreeg. 'Ik heb meerdere kopieën maar deze draag ik altijd bij me. Het is versleutelde informatie, dus een dief heeft er niets aan.'

U heeft tienduizenden staatsgeheimen in bezit. Dat geeft u veel macht.
'Ik publiceer al heel lang over veiligheidsissues en de NSA. Eindelijk heb ik de instrumenten in handen om de wereld te tonen dat er groot misbruik plaatsvindt. Dat is zeker een vorm van macht. Ik heb de macht mensen de waarheid te laten zien.

'Het is daarbij fantastisch dat de regering van de VS nog steeds geen idee heeft welke documenten Snowden heeft gestolen. Dat maakt hen bang. Ze weten niet wat we nog meer aan materiaal hebben waarmee we kunnen aantonen dat ze liegen over hun spionagepraktijken.'

New U.S. spying revelations coming from Snowden leaks: journalist

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Glenn Greenwald, the American journalist who published documents leaked by fugitive former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, plans to make new revelations "within the next 10 days or so" on secret U.S. surveillance of the Internet.

"The articles we have published so far are a very small part of the revelations that ought to be published," Greenwald on Tuesday told a Brazilian congressional hearing that is investigating the U.S. internet surveillance in Brazil.

"There will certainly be many more revelations on spying by the U.S. government and how they are invading the communications of Brasil and Latin America," he said in Portuguese.

The Rio de Janeiro-based columnist for Britain's Guardian newspaper said he has recruited the help of experts to understand some of the 15,000 to 20,000 classified documents from the National Security Agency that Snowden passed him, some of which are "very long and complex and take time to read."

Greenwald told Reuters he does not believe the pro-transparency website WikiLeaks had obtained a package of documents from Snowden, and that only he and filmmaker Laura Poitras have complete archives of the leaked material.

Greenwald said Snowden, who was in hiding in Hong Kong before flying to Russia in late June, was happy to leave a Moscow airport after being granted temporary asylum, and pleased that he had stirred up a worldwide debate on internet privacy and secret U.S. surveillance programs used to monitor emails.

"I speak with him a lot since he left the airport, almost every day. We use very strong encryption to communicate," Greenwald told the Brazilian legislators. "He is very well."

"He is very pleased with the debate that is arising in many countries around the world on internet privacy and U.S. spying. It is exactly the debate he wanted to inform," Greenwald said.

After a meeting in June with Snowden in Hong Kong, Greenwald published in The Guardian the first of many reports that rattled the U.S. intelligence community by disclosing the breadth and depth of alleged NSA surveillance of telephone and internet usage.

Last month, in an article co-authored by Greenwald, the Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported that the NSA spied on Latin American countries with programs that can monitor billions of emails and phone calls for suspicious activity. Latin American countries fumed at what they considered a violation of their sovereignty and demanded explanations and an apology.

COMMERCIAL SECRETS

In Brazil, the largest U.S. trading partner in South America, angry senators questioned President Dilma Rousseff's planned state visit to Washington in October and a billion-dollar purchase of U.S.-made fighter jets Brazil is considering.

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee peppered Greenwald with questions on Tuesday, such as whether the NSA was capable of spying on Brazil's commercial secrets, including the discovery of promising offshore oil reserves, and the communications of the country's president and armed forces.

Greenwald had no details on specific targets and said the documents did not name telecommunications and internet companies in the United States and Brazil that might have collaborated with the NSA's collection of internet users' data.

The journalist said Snowden planned to stay in Moscow "as long as he needs to, until he can secure his situation." He said Snowden knew he ran the risk of spending the rest of his life in jail or being hunted by the most powerful nation in the world, but had no doubts about his decision to leak the documents on the U.S. surveillance programs.

Greenwald criticized governments around the world for failing to offer Snowden protection, even while they publicly denounced the U.S. surveillance of their citizens' internet usage.

Meanwhile, Washington is working through diplomatic channels to persuade governments to stop complaining about the surveillance programs, he said.

"The Brazilian government is showing much more anger in public than it is showing in private discussions with the U.S. government," Greenwald told reporters. "All governments are doing this, even in Europe."

In a speech at the United Nations on Tuesday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota called the interception of telecommunications and acts of espionage in Latin America "a serious issue, with a profound impact on the international order." But he did not mention the United States by name.

SNOWDEN WARNS AMERICANS TO FEAR THE MILITARY-INTELLIGENCE COMPLEX

Unburdened by the Constitutional requirement to obtain a search warrant, those nice people at the National Security Agency (NSA) have teamed with Apple, Google and Microsoft to take time out of their busy day to capture all your party pictures from college, intimate letters with your lover and financial activities of your business in order to build a "permanent file" for leverage against you at a later date.

These are just the latest depressing revelations about the rise of the military-industrial complex from whistleblower/traitor Edward Snowden as he accepted political asylum in Russia today.

Snowden's latest bombshell, via Glenn Greenwald at the UK Guardian, is the outing of the NSA's XKeyscore software that is vacuuming up "nearly everything a typical user does on the internet." The top secret program allows civilian contractors in the U.S. to troll vast databases containing emails, online chats and the browsing histories of millions of individuals around the world.  

The NSA boasts in training materials that XKeyscore is its "widest-reaching" system for developing intelligence from the Internet.

Snowden was already the "most wanted person on earth", but with his newly-awarded legal status in Russia he cannot be legally handed over or kidnapped by the CIA. Snowden remains a very "marked man," and seems to need to stay in the public eye to avoid accidentally being assassinated in some lonely hideout. Consequently,he will likely continue to talk to the international press and appears to have more information for future release.

Snowden's latest revelations will also add fuel to the intense political revulsion to Obama's 18-to-29-year-old voting bloc that was the key to miraculous reelection in the face of the worst economic performance since President Herbert Hoover. This group has already dropped support for Obama by a stunning 17% over the last seven weeks as Snowden informed them that when they look at their cell phone, Big Brother is looking at them.

The timing of the Snowden release came the morning after senior intelligence officials testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and released formally classified documents in response to earlier Snowden interviews by the Guardian.  The testimony essentially admitted that the FISA Surveillance Court that supposedly assures Constitutional Fourth Amendment prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures without "probable cause" does not apply to cell phones, computers and all online activity.

The Obama administration, Intelligence Committee members and the NSA yesterday continued to vehemently deny Snowden's most controversial statement that: "I, sitting at my desk could wiretap anyone, from you or your accountant, to a federal judge or even the president, if I had a personal email." But Snowden's disclosures this morning seem to prove he and thousands of other NSA contractors could wiretap any American.

But the training materials for XKeyscore detail how analysts can use it to mine enormous agency databases by filling in a short "on-screen form giving only a broad justification for the search", without obtaining a warrant from a judge.  XKeyscore then provides the technological capability that once the NSA has the "metadata" of email or IP address to perform Digital Network Intelligence (DNI) covering all forms of electronic communications. Given that Apple, Google, Microsoft and others have already admitted to providing the NSA with email and IP addresses, that explains how XKeyscore was able to collected and store at least 41 billion total records in a 30 day period during last year.

The NSA states: "These types of programs allow us to collect the information that enables us to perform our missions successfully--to defend the nation and to protect US and allied troops abroad." Some of that may be true, but the Boston Bombing happened despite direct Russian intelligence agency warnings about the militant activities of Chechen-born Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Daniel Guerin warned in his 1936 book Fascism and Big Business to be vigilant against "an informal and changing coalition of groups with vested psychological, moral, and material interests in the continuous development and maintenance of high levels of weaponry, in preservation of colonial markets and in military-strategic conceptions of internal affairs."  President Eisenhower updated that message with a similar warning to fear the rise of the “military-industrial complex.”  Edward Snowden has updated the message that Americans must fear the rise of the “military-intelligence complex.”
